The rafters will be raised at the Casa de la Cultura Benito Perez Armas in Yaiza next month, as the Horizon Singers present a concert of songs from the shows, and classic popular songs of the last 40 years.

In return for 5 euros, which also includes a glass of sangria, those attending will be treated to a feast of great music from ‘There is Nothing Like a Dame’ from South Pacific, to Paul Simon’s ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’. You can get tickets for the events from any of the Bookswop stores in Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.
The Horizon Singers is an amateur ensemble of sopranos, altos, tenor and bass singers who meet once a week under the watchful and expert eyes of Dena and Michael Emerson, residents of Yaiza. According to Dena, it’s a chance for singing practice and a bit of a social get-together.

Michael and Dena started the Horizon Singers a couple of years ago. Back in the UK, Michael had been playing piano for many years, in music festivals both as a competitor and accompanist, and was also rehearsal pianist and accompanist for several choirs and music societies in Suffolk. Recently he had a professional engagement in the Princess Yaiza Hotel in Playa Blanca.

Meanwhile, Dena’s background included singing in choral and operatic societies, and she was a director of "Suffolk Opera" a semi-professional group. The backgrounds of other members ranges from membership of choral groups to folk music.

A special guest on both evenings will be the popular violinist Iya Zhmaeva.

The concert starts at 8 pm on both evenings, 8th and 9th July, at the Casa de la Cultura Benito Perez Armas in Yaiza.
