Lanzarote Golf Resort, Tias

This golf course opened only in 2009.  It is a long, interesting and scenic course, and we are told that it will challenge even the best golfer.  The club house 'Hoyo 19' has just opened, and offers a range of facilities including golf shop, bar and restaurant.

Ferries: Lanzarote to Fuerteventura

Ferries to Fuerteventura, the closest of the larger islands, operate from Playa Blanca in the south of Lanzarote.

Barely a year after establishing its new Gatwick hub, Aer Lingus has withdrawn flights to Lanzarote from Gatwick, along with a number of other European routes.

Outlook for Sterling in 2010

For UK residents in Lanzarote, and for the recovery in the tourist industry on the island after last year’s falls, the prospects for Sterling in 2010 are very important indeed, and have a direct effect on spending power on Lanzarote.

We have come across a very good research document published by Hargreaves Lansdown, the UK investment and pension specialists.  Amongst other things, it suggests that the sharp fall in the exchange rate since the end of 2008 may have been overdone as a response to the very high levels of debt that followed the bail out of the banks.

Nativity Scenes

All over Lanzarote at this time of year, you will see Nativity scenes being created in public areas, like this one at the Marina Rubicon, Playa Blanca.  These are real works of art, as well as a great celebration of the true meaning of Christmas.

Before 6th January, why not get creative with your digital camera, and send us yours. We will publish the best ones on the site, and donate 50 euros to your chosen childrens charity.

One of the best Nativity scenes is in Yaiza, but we've also seen a very large one at the Deiland Centre, Playa Honda. Please tell us about others you've seen.

El Dia de Los Reyes (6th January)

The big Christmas event in Lanzarote, apart from Christmas Day of course, is the Day of the Kings, also known as the The Three Kings, on 6th January. Don't miss the spectacular processions in Arrecife, Yaiza, and other venues.

Residents of Playa Blanca will no longer need to make the long trip to Playa Honda to shop at Congelados Ropers, the long-established food supermarket. There is a now a brand new store at the main Shopping Centre at Las Coloradas, near Papagayo and Marina Rubicon.

The new "Ropers"store seems to sell just about everything that will be familiar to those who have shopped at Playa Honda: frozen and fresh meat, fish, delicatessen cooked meats and cheeses, greengrocery, plus a good selection of quality wines.

Parking is easy at the Las Coloradas Shopping Centre, with an underground car park, serviced by a lift that comes out immediately opposite the store. There are also several coffee shops in the Centre, where you can enjoy a rest after some serious stocking up!

Jardin de Cactus

Cesar Manrique was well known for his projects based around the natural form and history of Lanzarote, and the Jardin de Cactus is his monument to this range of plants that thrive so well in their natural state on the island.
