The holiday villas around the resort are very popular,
and there are also some very good hotels in Playa Blanca. In all, this
fabulous resort offers possibly the best choice and
range of accommodation options across the entire Canary Islands.
Just ask any of the thousands that stay there every year.
The resort also has a superb range of restaurants to suit all
budgets, and you can browse some of these directly from this
page.
As a holiday resort, Playa Blanca enjoys some of the best weather
on the island, and also has some of the best beaches. Click
the links below to take a look around.
About a 5 minute walk from the town itself is the very stylish
Marina
Rubicon, which offers an eye-watering mix of designer yachts
and boats, bars, restaurants, clothing and gift shops. There
is also a busy street market selling a wide range of crafts,
accessories and clothing at the Marina every Wednesday and Saturday
mornings from 10 am to 2 pm.
Further on from Marina Rubicon is Costa del Papagayo, designated as
a national park for its outstanding beauty. Here there are
several wide and sandy beaches complete with sand dunes, small
coves and wild looking cliffs.
At the other end of Playa Blanca is the original fishing harbour,
great for just watching the ferries which can take you to Papagayo
or Fuerteventura.
Holiday Villas
Playa Blanca is now widely regarded as one of the best family
holiday resorts in the Canary Islands. A key reason for this is its
wide choice of family accommodation in the form of luxury villas
in Playa Blanca - a major area of development for the town over
the past ten years or so.
Most of the villas have their own private pool and barbecue, so
families can really relax and enjoy their holiday in a more nformal
way than is usually possible in a hotel.
The best areas to look at for holiday villas in Playa Blanca are
generally regarded as Faro Park, Montana Roja, Las Coloradas, and
Marina Rubicon. If you are staying in any of these areas, you
will be fairly close to the town itself, and there is an excellent
half hourly bus service that connects the entire resort.
Eating Out
We have a comprehensive section in this website for bars and
restaurants in Playa Blanca, and there is certainly plenty of
choice. Again with families in mind, most restaurants welcome
children - this is simply 'the Spanish way'. You can
choose to eat Spanish, Canarian, Italian, French, Chinese, Indian,
or British.
Because the main emphasis in the resort is on family holidays,
there are not as many late nightclubs as there are in Puerto
del Carmen, for example. But that doesn't mean there is
nowhere to let your hair down. There are Karaoke venues, sports
bars, and music bars to be found, especially in the Commercial
Centre at Punta Limones, and at the Papagayo Centre just above
Playa Dorada.
Things to Do
For many, holiday life away from the villa or hotel in Playa
Blanca focuses on the beaches, walking the promenade, enjoying a
slow beer and perhaps a meal in the many bars and restaurants.
But there are also plenty of other things to do in Lanzarote,
including some of these ideas in and around Playa Blanca
itself:
Boat trips - to Papagayo beaches, Fuerteventura and Lobos
islands, or just fishing trips
Water sports - especially from the Playa Dorada beach between
the town and Marina Rubicon
Market - held at Marina Rubicon every Wednesday and Saturday
morning
Bicycle hire - cycling is very popular in Playa Blanca, and
across Lanzarote for that matter. There are several bicycle
hire shops in the town.
Beaches - a choice of four great beach areas: Playa Flamingo,
Playa Dorada, the central town beach, and the natural beauty of the
beaches at Costa Papagayo.
Scuba diving and snorkeling - there are several dive schools
near the main beaches, and the rock areas of the town beach provide
lots of interest for snorkellers.
